Appointments to the Board of the Arts Council

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill up to 7 positions on the Board of the Arts Council.

Essential

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in any one of the following areas:-

A. Professional Arts Experience

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of:

• Recognised experience in relation to the arts in contemporary Ireland in any one or more of the following: -
- theatre;
- dance;
- visual arts;
- literature;
- street arts;
- circus;
- music;
- opera;
- young people and children;
- film;
- architecture.

• A demonstrable understanding of the role of the artist in Irish life and of professional arts practice;
• A Demonstrable understanding of curation, programming, producing and presenting arts events;
• Knowledge and experience of arts management, which the inclusion of the following would be of benefit;
o Direct experience of participation in or delivering programmes and/or projects with positive impacts on the pillars of sustainability – economic, environmental or social in the arts sector and/or
o Experience of advocating how the arts can play its part in meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.

B. Business/Management

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of:

• Senior business/management experience including a career history which would demonstrate experience of industrial and employee relations matters; and/or
• Strategy development and change management within a complex organisation/environment; and/or
• Familiarity with local government environment.

C. Young People, Children and Education

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of:

• A professional/academic background which demonstrates an understanding of the role of the arts in supporting the artistic and personal development of young people and children and/or
• A professional/academic background which demonstrates a knowledge of the formal, non-formal or third-level education system and structures in Ireland and the place of the arts within it and/or
• Experience of advocating the role of the arts in the lives of children and young people in public policy making in Ireland.

D. Community and Participation

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of one of the following:

• Experience of a diverse range of contexts for participation in the arts most particularly in the areas of social and cultural diversity
• Experience of public engagement in the arts particularly in a community/local context.

E. Public Engagement & Digital Media

Candidates must demonstrate in their application evidence of one of the following:

• Senior leadership experience of digital transformation and delivery;
• Experience of public relations and/or brand development and marketing;
• Experience of advocacy in the cultural sector and/or creative industries.
